The Munich-based pianist Julian Riem studied with Michael Schäfer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, with Michel Béroff at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris and in Rudolf Buchbinder's soloists' class at the Musik-Akademie Basel. Described early on by Béroff as one of the "most promising pianists of his generation", he won international competitions in Modena and Madrid as well as the "Premio Vittorio Gui" in Florence, and received a German Music Competition scholarship.

Together with the cellist Raphaela Gromes, Julian Riem has been delighting the classical music world for many years with concerts and recordings that have been highly praised and been awarded countless prizes.

As a soloist, chamber musician and Lied accompanist, he regularly gives concerts with celebrated musicians in the most prestigious halls and musical centres in Europe, Japan and the US. He is also a frequent guest at international piano and chamber-music festivals, such as the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Liszt en Provence piano festival and the Tongyeong International Music Festival in South Korea.

His CD productions in the field of chamber music have received several awards, including the "Opus Klassik" for chamber music, the "Echo Klassik" and a "Diapason d'or".

Besides playing the standard repertoire, Julian Riem is a staunch champion of modern and contemporary composers, whose works frequently feature in his concert programmes.
