Ensemble arabesques

In 2011 the German-French Arabesques cultural festival was launched in Hamburg. With more than fifty events a year, it is now the largest festival of its kind in Northern Germany.

The Ensemble arabesques, initially active only during the festival, has since developed its own dynamic, giving guest performances throughout the year in Germany and abroad. Musicians from the three major Hamburg orchestras, joined by orchestral soloists from all over Germany, perform together in variable combinations.

The ensemble focuses mainly on unusual projects from the Baroque to modern eras, their programs featuring above all unknown composers and forgotten works. Deutschlandfunk Kultur has recognized and supported this commitment from the very beginning.

In cooperation with the Ensemble Musicatreize from Marseille, their first CD, 'Trois contes de l'honorable fleur' by Maurice Ohana, was released in 2014. The production was nominated for an ICMA in the Opera Award category, and was also recommended by Radio france musique and the Charles Cros Academy.

In addition, the ensemble has collaborated with the Institut Français des Instruments à Vent since 2012. In the spirit of German-French friendship, they have given concerts and lectures in Hamburg, Marseille, and Aix-en-Provence.

In February 2017, the internationally-acclaimed recording 'Gustav Holst Chamber Music' was released by FARAO classics, which includes unknown works by Gustav Holst.

In September 2018, the Ensemble arabesques opened the Quinzaine Franco-Allemande en Occitanie festival in the presence of the mayors of Hamburg and Toulouse, marking a further international appearance as the ensemble develops more and more into an ambassador of the city of Hamburg.
