Andreas Wylezol was born in Berlin in 1967. As a child and youth he received lessons in violin, voice, double-bass and piano. He studied from 1984 to 1990 at the "Franz Liszt" Academy of Music under Professor Horst Dieter Wenkel. Andreas Wylezol gained second prize in the 1988 Johann Mathias Sperger competition in Michaelstein in Germany and in 1989 third prize in the Giovanni Bottesini competition in Parma in Italy. From 1988 to 1989 he was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under the direction of Claudio Abbado. Since 1989 he has been the principal double-bassist in the Dresden State Orchestra. Andreas Wylezol has taught at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra Academy, has played chamber music with the Cleveland Quartet, the Peterson Quartet, the Amati Quartet and the Dresden String Trio. He has made noteworthy appearances as a double-bass soloist under such conductors as Stefan Soltsz, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir Colin Davis and Sebastian Weigle. Andreas Wylezol has been a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and obtained a position as professor at the Musikhochschule in Detmold.
