Born in California, Kent Nagano is regarded as one of the foremost conductors of both operatic and orchestral repertoire. In September 2006 Nagano commenced his tenure as General Music Director at the Bavarian State Opera. The world première of Rihm’s "Das Gehege" and Strauss’ "Salome" were the first new productions that he conducted there. Among further new productions under his direction were "Eugene Onegin", "Idomeneo", "Wozzeck", "Dialogues des Carmélites" and "Die schweigsame Frau" as well as the world première of Chins "Alice in Wonderland". Additionally he has conducted "Lohengrin", "Parsifal", "Tristan and Isolde", "Tannhäuser" and 'Akademiekonzerte' (symphony concerts with the Bavarian State Orchestra). Guest appearances have taken Nagano and the Bavarian State Orchestra among other places to Milan, Berlin, Baden-Baden, Hamburg, Vienna, Budapest, Moscow. Under his direction the Bavarian State Orchestra is setting new standards in the field of education and training of young talent with the Opera Studio, Orchestra Academy and the youth orchestra ATTACCA. At the same time Nagano is also Music Director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal.
