BIOGRAPHY
Martin Steidler has made a concentrated study of various facets of choral music. After studying piano and choral direction at the Conservatories of Vienna and Regensburg, his first position was that of music teacher in Passau. In 1993 he founded the Vornbach Heinrich-Schütz-Ensemble which under his direction quickly grew into an icon of choral music in Bavaria.
As artistic director of the Passau Winter Concerts festival he founded the successful vocal music series "voc: vocal". In close collaboration with Gustav Kuhn he worked as choral director of the Tyrollean Festival in Erl, in Austria and in 2008 he took over the artistic direction of the Audi Young Persons‘ Choral Academy. He holds a professorship of choral direction at the Munich Academy of Music and Theatre, and in this capacity directs among other things the Academy’s renowned madrigal choir.
Guest appearances as a conductor, together with his activities as a teacher and competition juror have taken Martin Steidler to many European countries and also to Cuba. He is the recipient of various awards including the first prize of the Bücher-Dickmeyer Trust most especially for his musical work with the Vornbach Heinrich-Schütz-Ensemble, as well as the Europäisches Konzerthaus Trust in Passau. |
