BIOGRAPHY
Klaus Mertens, who was born in Kleve, Germany, received his first singing lessons when still at school. After his graduation he studied music and pedagogics and initially started an educational career.
He studied singing under the guidance of Professors Else Bischof-Bornes and Jakob Stämpfi (lied/concert/oratorio) as well as Peter Massmann (opera) and graduated with distinction.
This was soon followed by numerous concert performances in Germany and abroad. He worked with various renowned conductors as well as with major orchestras in Germany, Europe and the United States.
He is also a regular guest at many international festivals.
Klaus Mertens is known as a prominent and much sought-after singer especially of the baroque oratorio repertoire. He has repeatedly recorded Bachs great vocal works with various conductors.
His repertoire includes lied as well as classical and romantic concert literature such as Mendelssohns oratorios Elijah and Paul, but also works by contemporary composers, some of which are even dedicated to Klaus Mertens.
Numerous radio and television broadcasts as well as an extensive discography are proof of Klaus Merten`s competence as a versatile singer.
For years now, he has maintained a friendly and inspiring musical cooperation with Enoch zu Guttenberg and his ensembles. |
