The Swiss tenor Jörg Dürmüller studied violin and voice at the Winterthur Conservatory in Switzerland. After this he continued his voice studies at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hamburg. He attended master classes given by Christa Ludwig and Hermann Prey.
His first operatic engagements led him to Bielefeld and Brunswick under the artistic directorship of Brigitte Fassbaender. Jörg Dürmüller has frequently appeared as a guest soloist at the Opera Comique Berlin, performing the role of Ferrando in Mozart’s COSI FAN TUTTE and Bajazete in Händel’s TAMERLANO.
From 1997 to 2000, before he decided to work as a freelance artist, Jörg Dürmüller was a permanent member of the ensemble of the Volksoper in Vienna, where he very successfully appeared in the roles of Tamino in the MAGIC FLUTE, Don Ottavio in DON GIOVANNI, Don Ramiro in LA CENERENTOLA and others.
Furthermore he has been engaged as a guest tenor at the opera houses of Hamburg, Montpellier, Leipzig, Cologne, Sevilla, Strasbourg and at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
Jörg Dürmüller’s voice has a remarkable range of characters at it’s disposal. In 2004 he sang with overhelming success the role of Georg (Erik) in the first recording of Richard Wagner's original version (Paris 1841) of THE FLYING DUTCHMAN under Bruno Weil, to great acclaim in the specialist music journals.
Especially as a concert singer Jörg Dürmüller has gained a particularly good reputation, for example in the Evangelist’s parts in the passions of J.S. Bach. This has taken him to most of the major concert halls and festivals at home and abroad including the Royal Albert Hall London (BBC Proms), Auditorio Nacional de España Madrid, Santa Cecilia Rome, Musikverein Vienna, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Paris, Théâtre du Chatelet Paris, Philharmonie Sao Paulo, Summer Festival Tokyo, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Bach-Fest Leipzig, Epidaurus Festival Athens and the Bachfestival Leipzig to name but a few!
During his career in opera and concert he has worked under distinguished conductors such as Howard Arman, Bertrand de Billy, Herbert Blomstedt, Christoph Eschenbach, Reinhard Goebel, Thomas Hengelbrock, Christopher Hogwood, Michael Hofstetter, René Jacobs, Robert King, Ton Koopman, Vaclav Neumann, Christof Prick, Helmuth Rilling, Peter Schreier, Sebastian Weigle, Bruno Weil, Simone Young and Hans Zender.
Numerous Radio, TV, CD and DVD productions demonstrate Jörg Dürmüller’s way as an artist.
